Yosemite National Park officials said Wednesday it will offer a $1,000 reward for any information that helps bring back a historic The Ahwahnee Hotel sign that was stolen in February.
Anyone with tips is asked to call (209) 372-0246.
The sign was stolen from the formerly-named hotel, now called The Majestic Yosemite Hotel, sometime between February 27-28, days before the park renamed several iconic locations due to an ongoing legal battle with a subsidiary of Delaware North, its former concessionaire.
Yosemite spokesman Scott Gediman said park rangers have continued to investigate the theft, and weren’t sure whether the crime was intended to make a statement about the changing names, or an act of vandalism.
The theft is considered a federal offense.
