Two female students at Yosemite High School accused of covering a coach’s car in hate-filled messages and feces have been charged with six counts of felony vandalism, Madera County District Attorney David Linn announced Thursday.
The girls, ages 15 and 16, allegedly drew things like “Go back to Mexico” and a penis with the word “Trump” inside it on the vehicle of Victor Salazar, who coaches JV soccer at YHS.
“We looked at all possible charges and these are the charges that best fit the facts we currently know,” Linn said in a release. “The charges were filed in Juvenile Court, however, my office may later make a determination to move the action to Madera Superior Court.”
Linn said he hoped the matters would be handled within the juvenile system, in order to “protect the minor’s records in the future.”
However, Linn said, “if any other charges appear to be appropriate, we will ask the Court to try the juveniles as adults.”
A detention hearing is scheduled Friday, March 25 at 8:15 a.m.. The girls have been in county juvenile hall since Tuesday.
