Despite rumors spread through social media, the Cedar Valley Fire Station has not closed down, but it may in the future without volunteers.
Troy Cheek, Cal Fire Battalion Chief, said the two volunteers at the station are older than 68.
Should they decide to hang up their boots, without any volunteers, Cheek said closing the station could be an option.
He said a flyer sent out informing residents of that fact may have led to the rumor it was actually closed, but it’s still in operation.
“We’re basically doing everything we can to drum up the fact we need more volunteers,” Cheek said. “Without them, we’re kind of stuck in the mud.”
A meeting to discuss options with the station will be held 4 p.m. Saturday, April 2, at its location on 44907 Lake Side Drive in Oakhurst.
Cal Fire is contracted with the Madera County Fire Department.
