One of the most important questions to pizza fans across the Mountain Area is who offers the most scrumptious slice?
Sierra Oakhurst Kiwanis and the Coarsegold Parent Teachers Organization seek to answer that question with the fourth annual “Best Pizza in the Mountains” contest, Jan. 24, 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Oakhurst Community Center.
Entries this year are DiCicco’s Italian Restaurant, Me-N-Ed’s, Pizza Factory, and Round Table Pizza, all located in Oakhurst, as well as Goldmine Pizza in Coarsegold and Jalapeno’s Fresh Mex and Pizzeria in Yosemite Lakes Park.
Me-N-Ed’s looks to defend its 2015 crown, while Pizza Factory seeks to return to the top after it won the first two years of the contest in 2013 and 2014.
Here’s how it works: Each pizzeria will enter its “signature” pizza, and for a $10 presale ticket ($12 at the door), attendees will get one slice of pizza from each restaurant and a ballot.
The slices are color coded (meaning a blind taste) with the winner earning bragging rights for “Best Pizza in the Mountains” decided by overall votes.
For football fans, NFL playoff games will be available on televisions, with beer provided by South Gate Brewing Company and wine from Idle Hour Winery.
In addition to the pizza competition, there will be raffles, activities for children, and free popcorn for all.
Money raised from the fundraiser goes to scholarships for graduating students from Yosemite and Minarets high schools, as well as Valley Children’s Hospital and other charitable programs.
