Memorial and funeral services for Catherine Ann McGoldrick will be held Monday and Tuesday next week.
At 82 years old, McGoldrick died Dec. 14 at home in Oakhurst, surrounded by her family.
Better known as “Cappy,” McGoldrick was born May 5, 1933 in Providence, RI to her parents John and Mona Mullen. At 23 years old, she entered the Sacred Heart Society of nuns, with a bachelor’s degree in English from Newton College, now part of Boston College, and a master’s in history from Manhattanville College in New York.
After leaving the order in 1968, she and her husband Bernard McGoldrick moved to Oakhurst in 1972, settling into a home in Royal Oaks where they raised their family and where she lived until her death.
McGoldrick was a teacher and substitute teacher for both the Bass Lake and Yosemite school districts for several years, and a home tutor for what eventually became Mountain Home School.
Cappy was a painter, quilter, loved to laugh, and had a beautiful singing voice. Active in the community, she had many friends.
McGoldrick is survived by her son Bernard McGoldrick and his wife Snezhana, both Oakhurst attorneys, daughter Jennifer Hasty and husband Pete of Los Angeles, and sister Mona Russell of Detroit.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her sister Jane Clark, and her companion Marlin Schuetz.
A memorial service and viewing will be held 4 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 21, at Palm Memorial Sierra Chapel, located at 49269 Road 426 in Oakhurst, CA, 93644.
The body will be available for viewing at 3 p.m.
