The Sierra Mountain Little League (SMLL) will be hosting a spaghetti dinner and raffle prize fundraiser 5-7 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 7, at the Oakhurst Lutheran Church on Road 426 across from PG&E.
The raffle will include: gift certificates for Big 5 Sporting Goods, Branches Books & Gifts, Yosemite Gas, and Zanders Coffee; four vouchers to a Fresno Grizzlies game; four tickets to the California Academy of Sciences; gift baskets from Oakhurst Giftworks and Central Valley Community Bank, two tickets to the Cowboy Christmas Concert on Dec. 5 and beauty products from Julianne Beaute. In addition, a turkey dinner donated by Raley’s will be the door prize and the winner must be present to win.
Last year 175 area youth participated in the Little League program. The board wants to keep the registration fees at an affordable level for all families.
Costs borne by SMLL include $1,800 in rent paid annually to the Oakhurst Community Center for use of the fields there, PG&E, equipment, little league charter fees, water, maintenance, insurance, clinic and tournament fees and cleaning supplies for the bathrooms.
The current SMLL board is made up of 22 volunteers. “We as a board are striving to make this year as fun and affordable as we can for all families. In order to do that, we have some community events throughout the year to raise money,” said Dalene Stephens, board president.
“This board is definitely unique because it’s made up of people from every where in town and they each bring a different set of skills that help us function as a whole,” Stephens said.
Performing field and grounds maintenance, fundraising, head umpire, safety officer, player agents, and coaching coordinators are some of the jobs performed by the volunteers.
