Due to flash flooding and mud slides, Interstate 5 has been closed from three miles north of Santa Clarita at Parker Road (Los Angeles County) to the junction of State Route 99 (Kern County) along the grapevine. The interstate is expected to be closed until about 2 p.m. today (Oct. 16). A detour is available. Contact Caltrans Highway Information Network (CHIN) 800-427-7623 for updates.
State Route 58 in Kern County was also closed because of flash flooding and mud slides near Mojave, about 95 miles north of downtown Los Angeles. In a statement, the California Department of Transportation said it expected this route 58 shutdown would be “a long-term closure” and advised motorists to seek alternative routes.
