The Madera County Sheriff’s Office will present a class on preventing elder fraud, 10:30 a.m. - noon, Saturday, May 30, in the Oakhurst Library Community Room.
Detective Jeff Noland and Community Service Officer Jo Ann Evans will address IRS and PG&E frauds, telemarketing, fraudulent home repair, and bank account scams.
“The elderly and general public are targets,” Evans said. “Those who attend will learn how to recognize a scam, how to report one to the authorities, and how not to become a victim.”
The elderly are often the victims of unscrupulous criminals, and many such frauds have been reported throughout Madera County, and the Mountain Area.
The free class is especially important for seniors who live alone.
