The Rim Fire continues to grow north-east of Oakhurst and has grown to more than 200,000 acres as of Friday Aug. 30
Crews have reached 32% containment as they work to stop the fire from spreading eastward along Packard Canyon Road and Pilot Ridge.
The fire continues to grow into Yosemite National Park, charring more than 40,000 acres of the national treasure. Officials say the park will remain open to the public and has no intentions on closing.
Nearly 5,000 firefighting personnel , C-130’s, DC-10 firefighting air tankers, helicopters and bulldozers continue to battle the blaze that is one of the states largest in history. Fire crews have estimated complete containment between Sept. 10 and Sept. 20.
The fire continues to threaten more than 5,500 structures and has already destroyed 111 buildings, 11 of which were residential. There has been four injuries caused by the fire, however none of them were recent or life threatening. The cost of the fire to date has surpassed $40 million.
