Heritage Days Parade (Sept. 21) applications are now available at the Oakhurst Area Chamber of Commerce and on the Fresno Flats website, fresnoflatsmuseum.org .
Last years parade included more than 50 entries traveling down High School Road (427), then west on Crane Valley Road (426), ending at Grant Mercantile on Golden Oak Loop.
“The 17th Annual Heritage Days Parade is a great family event and anyone can enter including clubs, organizations, horseback groups, floats, antique cars and school bands,” said Sandy Brinley, parade chairwoman. “Trophy sponsorships are needed and are only $25. Anyone sponsoring a trophy is entered into a drawing for a night stay at Tenaya Lodge in Fish Camp.”
This years parade theme is “150th Anniversary of the Yosemite Grant commemorating the start of the National Parks.”
Following the parade, there will be food, entertainment, booths, a sluice box derby, silent auction and demonstrations at Fresno Flats Historic Village and Park. The day will end with a community salmon and steak dinner.
A parade planning meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 15, at Sierra Telephone. Community members interested in helping with the event are encouraged to attend.
Vendor space is also available for the event.
The event benefits the Sierra Historic Sites Association and the upkeep of Fresno Flats.
