A Placer County Sheriff's deputy found found a couple of masked bandits off Cincinnati Avenue in unincorporated Rocklin. The raccoons ran away shortly after he shot this video posted on January 15, 2018.
Highway 101 near Montecito remains closed, underwater and covered in mud almost a week after the deadly mudslides and floods hit the Santa Barbara County town. Caltrans continues to work to cleanup the highway; as of Monday, January 15, 2018, crews hoped to have the road open the week of Jan. 22.
Firefighters kicked down doors, caught babies and rescued wheelchair-bound adults after a massive fire tore through a DeKalb County apartment on January 3, 2018, officials said. The blaze at the Pine Tree Circle complex forced parents to jump from balconies and toss children as young as 1 month old to waiting firefighters below, DeKalb fire Capt. Eric Jackson said. "We were catching babies like a football," Jackson said. "Literally."

Recovery crews slowly made progress on Sunday, January 14, 2017, digging away masses of mud, boulders and toppled trees in Montecito, the California community that was ravaged by deadly mudslides. Another body was found Sunday, bringing the number of fatalities to 20, Santa Barbara County spokesman Justin Cooper said.
