The Madera County Sheriff’s Office announced that Jacob Burdett, 25, of Coarsegold, has been arrested and charged with one count of murder for the homicide of his mother’s significant other and one count of attempted murder, for shooting his mother.
The event occurred Friday night on Little John Drive in Coarsegold.
Burdett has been transported and booked in at Madera County Department of Corrections, where he is being held on a combined $2 million bond for both charges.
He is the man deputies detained last night for questioning after arriving on scene. Shortly before 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 30, the sheriff’s office responded to the area of Road 416 and Little John Drive in Coarsegold in regards to a disturbance.
According to witness statements, there was some type of altercation involving two vehicles traveling on Little John Drive. The lead vehicle stopped at a residence.
There was an altercation involving the occupants, as well as a male from the residence. At one point, a male and female from one of the vehicles was shot.
The male is deceased and the 41 year-old female was transported to a hospital.
The identity of the deceased is being with held as deputies try to notify his relatives.
The female victim has been identified as the Burdett’s mother but her will not be released. The male that Burdett shot was her significant other.
The investigation remains ongoing.
