The Oakhurst Democratic Club will hold its next monthly meeting Sept. 3, at Denny’s in Oakhurst. Breakfast will be served at 8:30 a.m., with speakers beginning at 9:30.
A special Labor Day weekend program will introduce two 2016 democratic party candidates. Dr. Robert Derlet of El Dorado Hills is running to replace Tom McClintock as the 4th district congressional representative, and Robert Carabas of Sonora who seeks to unseat Frank Bigelow as 5th district California assemblyman.
The public is welcome and encouraged to attend.
Celebrating wine month
A California Wine Month celebration, hosted by the Madera Vintners Association, will be held 6-9 p.m., Sept. 16, at Fasi Estate Winery (42415 Road 208). The event offers wine tasting, appetizers, and live music.

Bingo, poker fun
Rotary Club of Oakhurst Sierra will hold a bingo and poker fun night, Oct. 1, at the Oakhurst Community Center. Dinner begins at 5 p.m., with games at 6 p.m.
There will be $1,500 in prize money. The cost is $50 for poker, $25 for bingo, with dinner included.
Proceeds benefit Rotary’s area service projects.

Jazz on the Lake
The final summer Jazz on the Lake concert with Niteflite, a jazz, blues and rock band, will be held 7 p.m., Sept. 2, on the Pines Resort Lakeside Gazebo deck.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Pre-sale tickets are $5 via Eventbrite, or $10 at the door.
Cards for critters
Tickets for the EMCSPCA 2016 cards for critters raffle are on sale now. This raffle benefits the EMCSPCA shelter fund. At a price of $5 per ticket, the first place winner will receive 20 $25 gift cards from businesses including Lowes, Kohl’s, Macy’s, Cheesecake Factory and Amazon; the second place winner will receive 10 $25 gift cards from similar businesses; the third place winner will receive a $150 Von’s card, and the fourth place winner will receive a $100 Von’s card.
The winning names will be drawn Dec. 1, winners need not be present to win.

Fresno Flats Bingo
During the Heritage Days celebration Bingo will take place 3-8 p.m., Friday, Sept. 16, and 11 a.m. - 8 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 17 at Fresno Flats, with prizes of steaks, bacon, can foods, fruits and vegetables. It’s a way to come out, play a few games and support Fresno Flats.
