Three days of smile generating, toe tapping ragtime music is coming to Oakhurst this weekend (April 29 - May 1).
A lively bunch of players, namely pianists Tom Brier; Jack and Chris Bradshaw; Larisa Migachyov; John Reed-Torres; and star youth performer, Diego Bustamante, will be at the keyboard, along with Steve and Robyn Drivon on the drums and tuba and Julia Riley on flute.
Music will range from century-old Scott Joplin tunes to the modern ragtime compositions of today. Solos, duos (on one or two pianos) and various combinations of players will be on the bill. It’s a slam dunk for a fun time.
The festival will be held Friday and Saturday at the Oakhurst Community Center, 39800 Road 425-B, and the finale concert will be at the Oakhurst Lutheran Church, Road 426 at Black Road, Sunday afternoon.
The program is under the direction of Jack and Chris Bradshaw, from Gilroy, with other performers coming to Oakhurst from the Sacramento area and Los Angeles.
The festival begins at 5:30 p.m. Friday, with a a soup and salad supper, followed by the concert for $16. Concert-only tickets are $10, and will be available at the door both Friday and Saturday evenings.
Of special interest, Diego Bustamante will be featured in a special set during the Saturday afternoon concert, which begins at 2 p.m. and also features an ice cream social. Children are admitted free with their parents. Crowds will sure to be delighted with the music of this talented 17-year-old ragtime piano player. Tickets are $6.
Saturday evening will feature a pulled pork dinner beginning at 5:30 p.m., followed by the concert at 6:30. Tickets are $20.
Tickets for all three events can be purchased in advance for $40.
The Finale Concert (by donation) will be held 11 a.m. - 3 p.m., May 1, at the Oakhurst Lutheran Church. Refreshments will be served following the concert.
