Memoir Writing Class
The Memoir Writing Class is starting a new semester on Jan. 8, 2016. Led by Joyce Stuhr, the no credit, no fee class swas started at Merced Collebe 18 years ago. The class is open to anyone who wishes to participate, starting 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Sierra Vista Presbyterian Church.

Soroptimist International of the Sierras will host a conference for female high school students on Saturday, Jan. 23, at the Oakhurst Community Center.
Registration is from 8 a.m. to 8:45, with the program beginning at 9.
Breakfast and lunch will be served, and the event is free, with prizes throughout the day. The deadline for registration is Jan. 15.
Oakhurst Chamber Installation Dinner
The Oakhurst Area Chamber of Commerce will hold its 2016 Installation Dinner and Awards Ceremony Jan. 15. Reception begins at 6 p.m., with dinner at 7, in the Lakeview Room of the Bass Lake Conference Center at The Pines Resort.
Doug Dearing will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award, Steve Welch of Bass Lake Realty, the Man of the Year Award, Donna Smith of Foster & Parker Insurance, the Woman of the Year Award, and Oakhurst Feed & Pet Supply, the Business of the Year. The Executive Director Award will be presented to Madera County Office of Emergency Services, Cal Fire Madera-Mariposa-Merced Unit, and the Sierrra National Forest Bass Lake Ranger District.
Dinner will be catered by Ducey’s on the Lake, at $45 per person. Promotional room rates are available at The Pines Resort. Call the Chamber office for the Room Code. Reservations are required by Jan. 8.

Tony Gurule will give an informative talk on Radical Islam & Sharia (Islamic Law), 6:30 - 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 12, at Best Western Yosemite Gateway Inn Restaurant. The event is sponsored by the Oakhurst area Tea Party, and all are welcome to attend.
Questions that will be answered include: Is Islam a religion of peace? What is the difference between Islam and Radical Islam? Where did the latter come from? What is Sharia? Is it a threat to the U.S.?
Gurule is assistant director of Chapter Formation for Ratio Christi, a Christian organization promoting academic intellectual investigation on university campuses throughout the world.
