Christmas Day dinner will be served 1 p.m., at the Oakhurst Sierra Senior Center. All seniors who would otherwise be alone on Christmas Day are invited to attend.
Refreshments will be available at noon, and the dinner (turkey, ham, and side dishes) will be served an hour later.

Auditions for ‘Shake’ will be held 5:30 p.m., Jan. 4-5, at the Golden Chain Theatre. This high energy musical by the creators of ‘Tin Pan Alley’ centers around college life in 1964, with students who must learn how to accept differences in others, and how to come together to fight for what they believe in. Written by James Mierkey and Jennifer Piccolotti, and directed by Mierkey, the show will run April 1-17.
Roles include college students, between the ages of 15-25, and faculty and parents, between the ages of 25-70.
Ringing in 2016
The Elks Lodge will hold its New Year’s Eve party, with hors d’oeuvres at 6 p.m., prime rib dinner at 7 p.m., and music/dancing at 8 p.m.
The cost is $25 for Elk members, and $30 for non-members and guests.

Fireworks at Bass Lake
The Pines Resort will ring in the new year with fireworks. The evening of activities starts with a free family friendly magic show by Kenny B, during lunch at Ducey’s Bar & Grill.
The magic shows will take place at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. with a regular bar and grill menu and kids menu available. For questions or reservations, (559) 642-3131.
Traditionally, Executive Chef Johnathan Frabotta will present a four course New Year’s Eve Dinner at Ducey’s on the Lake from 4 - 10 p.m. A limited, three course sunset menu will be available from 4 - 6 p.m.
Seating is pre-arranged and Ducey’s will not be serving their regular menu on that day. Live Music will be provided by the Stallion Dance Band and One Hot Minute (Pines Bar). Guests will be able to enjoy the appetizer and dessert bars, photo booths, party favors as well as a spectacular fireworks finale and champagne toast at midnight.
Kahn named SCCCD board secretary
Bobby Kahn has been elected as State Center Community College District board secretary. Kahn is a Trustee for SCCCD area 1, and is the executive director of the Madera County Economic Development Commission. Richard M. Caglia was elected board president, and John Leal vice-president.
SCCCD is currently enrolling students for the spring semester, which begins Jan. 11.
