Community Christmas Choral Program
The Sixth Annual Community Christmas Choral Program will be presented twice on Sunday, Dec. 13, at Sierra Vista Presbyterian Church, 39696 Highway 41.
The first free performance by 50 singers from several Mountain Area churches will be at 4 p.m., with the second performance at 6:30 p.m.
Conducting duties for the concert will be shared by Susan Moore from Oakhurst Lutheran Church, Monika Moulin from New Community United Methodist Church, and Cathy Walker, from Sierra Vista Presbyterian Church, who serves as the event’s coordinator. Pianists lending their accompanist skills include Mary Posluch and Jackie Byers.
Holiday songs being performed include “O Come, All Ye Faithful,” “Silent Night,” “We Three Kings,” “The King of Glory,” “Have You Heard the News,” and “Go Tell it on the Mountain.”
Solos will be performed by cellist Boris Nixon, soprano Julia Noble, violinist Sara Ottley, soprano Susan Moore, Bree Noble, and Kirk and Monika Moulin in a special jazz version of “Have Yourself a Blessed Little Christmas.”

The Oakhurst Library will host a workshop presented by Carla Hyatt, who will teach how to use the ancient art of folding paper into various artistic shapes. The class will be held 10:30 a.m. to noon, Dec. 4, in the library’s Community Room. Participants will make origami Christmas decorations which can be used as ornaments or holiday cards. One can be made into a holiday pin.
Anyone aged 11 and older is invited, but the class is limited to the first 40 people. All supplies will be provided. Each student will make the decorations and can take their projects with them when they leave the class.

A collectible book sale, by Friends of the Oakhurst Library, will be held 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Dec. 5, in the library’s Community Room. Book prices are $2 and up for fiction and non-fiction; for children’s books, $1 and up. Bring your library card with FOBL 2015 sticker for $1 off.

Comments on planning and environmental impact analysis in Yosemite National Park’s Yosemite Wilderness Stewardship Plan will be accepted through Jan. 29.
Park officials say the plan, as part of the 1989 Wilderness Management Plan, needs an update to add information about visitors, trail design and construction, managing wilderness, and other work.
A public scoping meeting will be held Jan. 20 from noon to 2 p.m. inside the Yosemite Valley Auditorium. Webinars are available Dec. 16, and Jan. 6 from noon to 1 p.m. and Jan. 12 from 6 to 7 p.m.
Food items for Manna House
The Sierra Star is partnering with Manna House to sponsor a Christmas food drive. Donate five non-perishable food items for Manna House and receive an entire year of the Sierra Star for $35. Cans must be dropped off at the Sierra Star by Dec. 22.
