An Oakhurst Health Fair, with free screenings, will be held 11 a.m. - 4 p.m., Oct. 18, at the Oakhurst Community Center.
Screening services include dental, blood pressure, visual acuity testing, body mass measurements, blood sugar, pulmonary function testing, carotid artery ultrasound, flexibility, depression screening, skin cancer screening, flu shots, physical therapy consultations, and healthy tips for a healthier life style. There will also be face painting and healthy food samples.
Sponsored by the Oakhurst Seventh-day Adventist Church, the event is centered around screenings to show the need of a follow-up with your healthcare provider.
Twenty-seven providers will be on-hand, including Camarena Health, Clovis Community Hospital giving lessons on self-breast exams, St. Agnes Medical Center giving diabetic foot exams and checking blood pressure, Raley’s with health food samples, Adventist Health, the Veterans Administration, chiropractors, podiatrists, and natural paths.
A few Seventh-day Adventist Church members have organized past health fairs in Utah, where there were 300-400 providers, and 7,000-8,000 participants. It was an event that grew every year there.
It is hoped that this first health fair sponsored by the church will promote early detection and be a step towards a healthier mountain community.
