The long-standing Fresno Flats Ragtime Festival is coming back to Oakhurst April 10-12 as the Oakhurst Ragtime Festival. It will feature an expanded program with meals both Friday and Saturday evenings, and promises to be an even bigger weekend event.
The event is being organized by the Oakhurst Ragtime Association which is a newly-formed local group of ragtime enthusiasts who are interested in continuing to bring this form of entertainment to the Mountain Area.
The festival will be held Friday and Saturday at the Oakhurst Community Center, and Sunday at the Oakhurst Lutheran Church on Road 426.
The Oakhurst Community Center is spacious and will be able to accommodate more people, although tickets will be limited to 125 to allow good seating for all who attend.
The oak floor at the center was recently refinished and will be a perfect surface for those who might wish to dance during the Saturday afternoon concert.
Featured pianists are Tom Brier, Jack & Chris Bradshaw, Larisa Migachyov and next generation performer, the up and coming John Reed-Torres. Joining the players will be Steve and Robyn Drivon on drums and tuba and Julia Riley on flute.
You can also expect Steve Drivon to sing a few of those hilarious ragtime tunes. Joining up in various combinations, you will hear ragtime tunes ranging in styles from the refined Victorian parlors to the most raucous of barrooms. Solos, duos (on one or two pianos) and various combinations of pianos and instruments are on the bill.
The schedule for Friday begins with a Soup and Salad Supper served from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30, followed by the evening concert at 7 p.m. Saturday's evening program has the same schedule, except with a tri-tip dinner. In addition, there is a Saturday afternoon concert from 2-5 p.m.
Prices are $15 for Friday, $7.50 for Saturday afternoon, and $25 for the Saturday evening dinner and concert. Ticket package for all three events is discounted to $40.
The final concert on Sunday at the Lutheran Church is from 1-3 p.m., by donation. Tickets are available at Dorsey’s Hallmark, Oakhurst Giftworks and Mountain Feed in Coarsegold; Or you may call (559) 683-7860 for more information or tickets by mail. A limited number of tickets will be available at the door.
The festival is sponsored by The Oakhurst Ragtime Association in conjunction with the Gold Dust Dancers and the Oakhurst Community Center, Inc., with support of the Oakhurst Area Chamber of Commerce, the Yosemite Sierra Visitor's Bureau and the Oakhurst Lutheran Church.
