John Barton Rogers

John Barton Rogers

John Barton Rogers was born July 31, 1930 in Oconomowoc, Wis. and died April 16, 2008 in his home of 32 years in Ahwahnee.

He met and married Norma Kay Stecker while both were attending the University of Michigan. They were married April 4, 1953. By November, the couple had moved to Santa Monica, where Rogers was employed by the Rand Corp. Rogers started in computers when capacity was measured in kilobytes, and the machines took up whole, temperature-controlled rooms. Rogers worked in programming and system analysis until 1976.

The family moved to Ahwahnee and purchased Mountain Glass and Insulation, now Mountain Comforts, and have continued to run it.

Rogers was known for his photography and exhibited in numerous places, including the Los Angeles Museum of Science and Industry, Spectrum Gallery in Fresno and at Williams Gallery in Oakhurst.

He is survived by his wife, Norma; his daughter and son-in-law Carol and Bob Fletcher; daughter Annie Dennis and a granddaughter, Rachel Hughes.

A memorial service is planned for June. Remembrances may be sent to Hinds Hospice.
