A San Diego woman, who frequents both Wawona and Oakhurst, is behind bars this morning facing assault charges -- but not before she was assaulted herself.

Rebecca Renee Simmons, 46, was taken into custody this morning at CRMC. She was rescued from inside a structure at a mini storage facility located on Winding Way in Oakhurst around 1:30 a.m.

According to reports, she had suffered a laceration to her face from a pitchfork. Her assailant has been identified as Dennis Lloyd Gandy of Oakhurst. The two are familiar with each other.

Gandy stands about 5 foot 6 and weighs 165 pounds. He has short brown hair and blue eyes. A booking photo taken last year shows him with an overgrown goatee.

Gandy is wanted for assault with a deadly weapon and battery.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to call either the Madera County Sheriff’s Office at 559-675-7770 or CRIME STOPPERS at 498-STOP.

As for Simmons, she was wanted in connection with the stabbing of woman last month, during an argument over a car in Oakhurst.
