Reds lose in tournament

June 17, 2014

The Yosemite Little League Reds fell to the Turlock American 10-4 in the final of the Tournament of Champions June 13 in Los Banos. The Reds finished their regular season with a 20-2 record to easily win the Yosemite Little League crown.

The Los Banos Indians traveled to Yosemite Lakes Park June 9 to begin the Tournament of Champions. The hot hitting Reds jumped out to a 12-2 lead, and went on to trounce the Indians 17-6 in four innings.

Paul Antonis went the distance on the hill for the win. Hitting stand outs were Rylan Matyshock with three runs scored and two RBIs, and Tony Woolsey with two RBIs and four runs scored.

On June 11, the Los Banos Indians returned for an elimination game. Antonis' bat said there would be no elimination on that day as he belted two grand slams in a 15-13 thriller. Tyler Helwig added a home run to send the Reds into the June 13 district championship game, which the Reds lost to Turlock American.

The Reds have won the Yosemite Little League the past eight years. It is a tribute to team coach Bob Woolsey , who always has his team ready to play and the players play to their maximum potential. His two sons, Brian and Joey, were on the first championship team and they now excel at Yosemite High being named all league this year.
