Flag Day celebration, June 14

June 5, 2014

The Oakhurst Lutheran Men’s Club will sponsor its annual Flag Day Celebration at 6 p.m., Saturday, Saturday, June 14 (Flag Day).

The celebration will begin with a free hot dog, chips and soda for all children under 12. A tri-tip sandwich, chips and soda will be available for adults for $7, with all profits going to the Mountain Area Caring Vets program.

The Flag Day program will be conducted at the Veterans Memorial and Flag pole, beginning at 7 p.m., and will include a brief history of Flag Day, the presidential proclamation, a guest speaker and patriotic songs. The Lions Club will furnish flags for all the children.

Newly added this year will be a Flag Retiring (burning) ceremony at the end of the festivities. Anyone who has a flag which is in a condition no longer appropriate for representing our nation can bring it for proper disposal.

Oakhurst Lutheran and the Flag Day celebration is at the corner of Crane Valley Road (426) and Black Road, directly across the street from PG&E headquarters.
