Coarsegold man killed in motorcycle accident

June 4, 2014

On June 3, 2014, at approximately 7:28 p.m., 56-year-old Coarsegold resident, Michael Rhett Lari, died after sustaining fatal injuries. According to the California Highway Patrol, Lari was driving a 2007 Harley Davidson motorcycle northbound on Highway 41 north of Road 208 at approximately 60 m.p.h.

For an unknown reason, he allowed the motorcycle to veer to the right of the roadway, where it traveled up a rock/dirt embankment.

As a result of the collision, the rider was ejected, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Alcohol and/or drugs was not suspected to have been a factor in this collision, which remains under investigation.

While emergency crews were investigating and clearing the scene, five separate rear-end collisions occurred on southbound 41 in the 90 minutes following the fatality, with several motorists being taken to area hospitals with complaints of pain.

Traffic on Highway 41 was slowed for several hours while tow trucks and emergency crews worked to clear the roadway.
