Supporting Muscular Dystrophy

Letters to the Editor - 6/5/14 edition

June 3, 2014

Dear Editor,

A couple of weeks ago, we had a fundraiser for Muscular Dystrophy — "Fill the Boot." Unless you have one of the many muscular disorders covered by the MDA, you probably don't realize all the services they offer.

They have a clinic that any MD client can attend. They also have a lending "closet" that provides for many of the needed supplies associated with MD, and there are summer camps for children affected with this disease. There isn't enough space to list all the good they do.

As a recipient of many of these services, I would like to thank the many generous people driving through Oakhurst during that time. We even received a donation from a man from Italy who was bicycling through town. I would like to thank our local firefighters for standing out in the heat carrying a boot to help collect donations. I also want to thank the owner of the Mexican Taqueria for sending out bottles of water for those us who were thirsty.

I'm proud to say that I'm a fourth-generation here, and with my son helping out that day, together we represented five generations helping in this worthy cause.
