Minarets High School Scholarships

June 3, 2014

Minarets High School hosted its Senior Scholarship Awards night on Tuesday, May 20, handing out more than $112,000 in awards to students for their distinguished academic and community excellence.

"It was an amazing night - so wonderful to see these students be honored for all their hard work and dedication throughout their high school career," Claudia Vandenbergh, Chawanakee Unified District counselor said. "It's been such a pleasure to work with all of them. I look forward to hearing about all their future accomplishments. We expect them all to have great success."

The night was highlighted by three specific scholarships including the Evelyn Ducoff Scholarship Fund for Chawanakee Unified School District Arts, awarded to two students for their continued involvement in the area of arts.

Recipients of the awards, Catherine Broyles and Rylee Jackson, both received $10,000 to be used towards furthering their education in the field of arts at the school of their choice.

In order to be nominated for the award, students must have been a visual arts, media art, or performing arts student for at least three of their four years in high school. They were required to have been involved in art on-and-off campus during their tenure at Minarets, and must be attending a post-secondary institution and studying an art-related field (including plans to pursue an art-related career).

Upon graduation Broyles will attend Woodbury University to study animation and Jackson will attend Academy of Arts University in San Francisco to study graphic design.

"I am so blessed to have received the scholarship. With it I can definitely see doors opening for me. Thank you so much for the scholarship, I hope that one day I am successful enough to help other young artists in achieving their goals in the same way," Broyles said.

The nights most notable award came when Daniel Lynchwas presented the Husband-Boeing Honors Scholarship, Lyles College of Engineering at Fresno State.

This four-year scholarship will cover tuition and fees totaling an approximate $24,000. The award is given to those who maintain a 3.6 GPA or higher, scored 1800 SAT, are in the top 10% of their class, and have distinguished themselves in the areas of academic excellence, service and leadership.

"It is such an exciting thing to see talented and deserving graduating seniors start their post-secondary careers with tremendous financial support from such dedicated community partners," Minarets Principal Michael Niehoff added.

Below is a list of Minarets High School Scholarships names and recipients along with the names of each presenter who awarded each student with their scholarship. Students who were presented with a scholarship will be able to use the funding to further their educational experience at the college of their choice, given the college they choose meets the requirements for that funding.
