Martin wins Captain's Cup

May 27, 2014

Maggie Martin, captain of the River Creek Women's Golf Club, won the club's Captain's Cup Tournament held May 20 and 22 with a net score of 62.

After the first day, Martin was tied with Angela Peters and they had a tie score again on the second day. Peters had a chip-in for birdie on hole No. 11, but she still couldn't overtake Martin.

The tie was broken by selecting who had the best score on the hardest hole on the course — No. 1 where Martin had a five and Peters a six.

Martin worked for the National Park Service in Yosemite for 30 years before retiring a few years ago and taking up golf.

The club invites all Mountain Area women to attend a "Girls Night Out" event at River Creek at 5 p.m., Tuesday, June 10. The evening will consist of free lessons on putting, a chipping contest, raffle prizes, wine and appetizers — all free to celebrate women's golf month.
