Minarets program a success

It has been a busy year for five students attending Minarets High School who enrolled in the Workability Program as an elective this past school year.

The mission of the Workability Program is to promote the involvement of key stakeholders including students, families, educators, employers and other agencies in planning and implementing an array of services that will culminate in successful student transition to employment, lifelong learning and quality of life.

This program provides pre-employment skills training, worksite training and follow-up services for youth ages 16-22 in special education who will be making the transition from school to work. It offers these students the opportunity to complete high school while also obtaining marketable job skills and seeks employers in the local community who will give students with learning differences a chance to gain new skills while earning a paycheck, paid through the county-funded program.

"This year, the Minarets Mustang Workability Program would like to thank The MET Cinema, Supernaw's BBQ, Grocery Outlet-Bargain Market, and True Value Hardware in Oakhurst for giving these students their first experience in a job setting and providing them with excellent on-the-job training," teacher coordinator GeGe Drozen said.

"They are all wonderful examples of businesses who strongly support our youth and community."
