Fire tax

Letters to the Editor - 5/22/14 edition

May 20, 2014

Dear Editor,

While I think a Cal Fire fire protection sum is justified in rural areas, it might be better if all Californians paid a smaller amount and it should be a tax deduction on our income tax form.

It is a tax, not a fee. The forests belongs to all of us, and spread over the entire state would be a smaller tax on income taxpayers.

My bill was also raised $2.30 this year to $117.30 apparently for inflation, which I suppose was in included in the original legislation.

How come we don't get that information until it happens?
