Minarets play for title Friday

Mustangs advance after pounding McFarland 21-1Tuesday

May 20, 2014

After beating No. 4 seed McFarland (14-14, 9-3) 21-1 in the quarter finale round of the Central Section D-VI baseball playoffs Tuesday, the No. 1 seed Minarets Mustangs (27-5, 9-1) hope to do something Friday that has not been done in the short history of the school — win a section title.

The team will travel to Rawhide Park in Visalia for a 4 p.m. match-up with No. 2 seed Farmersville (18-6, 10-2), for the section title. Farmersville advanced to the game by beating No. 3 seed Orosi (13-10, 9-3) Tuesday.

The Mustangs pounded McFarland building an early lead and recording 20 hits in the lopsided game.

The Mustangs finished the game with the majority of their starters on the bench.

Conley Biglione led the team going 3 for 4 with three doubles and the Mustang's Sam Reyes going 3 for 5 with three RBIs. Zach Clayton added three RBIs of his own to help catapult the Mustangs to a decisive win in the semi-finals of the section championship.

The Mustangs controlled the tempo of the game, dominating both sides of the ball, behind the lights out pitching performance of starting pitcher Reyes (5-1). Reyes recorded six of the team's 12 strikeouts. Reliever Chance Carter recorded five strikeouts.
