May 20, 2014

The Yosemite Colts under 14 baseball team took first place in the Clovis Summer Slam baseball tournament last weekend. The team opened the tournament with a 8-2 win over the Central Cal Angels. Brendan Gillespie and Samuel Burnheimer pitched well, only giving up five hits in the game.

The second game saw the Colts beat Clovis North 17-1, with pitcher Jaeden Pierce getting the win.

On Sunday, the Colts took on the Marlins and advanced to the championship game with a 9-4 victory with Austen Burgeno on the mound.

The championship game came down to Colts and Clovis North. Clovis North had defeated Clovis earlier in the day to advance to the championship game.

EG Walden pitched a good game with 10 strikeouts as the Colts scored early and often in winning the tournament title with a 13-2 victory after only four innings when the 10 run mercy rule was called.

The Colts batted .441 for the tournament to go along with 15 stolen bases.

For the tournament, Cody Woolsey had two triples — Luke Howell and Brendan Gillaspy had doubles — and Luke Howell, Samuel Burnheimer and Ty Peterson had three singles.

The team is sponsored by Oakhurst Physical Therapy, Rodney Peters DDS, Round Table Pizza, Bowman Concrete, Yosemite Jazz Band, Gateway Memorials, and the Yosemite Baseball Boosters.

The Colts are in action again this weekend at the Caruthers Tournament and the following weekend in Pismo Beach.
