Restore the trust

May 20, 2014

I am running for the office of Madera County District Attorney to restore the public trust, protect our citizens, and seek justice. I will prosecute cases myself to ease the burden of the current staff.

I am supported by Sheriff John Anderson, the Madera County Deputy Sheriffs Association, the Chowchilla Police Officers Association, the Madera County Correctional Officers Association, and the Central California Correctional Peace Officers Association.

After learning of the frustration of law enforcement and taxpayers I decided the incumbent must be challenged in his reelection this June. I was quickly supported by deputy prosecutors and local public officials.

During my campaign I have traveled to all parts of the county and met with hundreds of law enforcement personnel. I was involved in numerous ride-a-longs with local police, toured county jails and correctional facilities and I've learned how hard they all work.

My plan is to hire experienced prosecutors, invest in professional training for current prosecutors, conduct a system review of office procedures, improve communication, and work closely with law enforcement and corrections.

I have a bachelor's degree in forestry from Purdue University, a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from California State University, Juris Doctor from Pepperdine University School of Law, one of the top 50 law schools in the United States.

I am a recipient of the American Jurisprudence Award in criminal procedure. I am nationally recognized as a Distinguished Attorney. My work has been published in six different law journals including the Federal Reporter, and I have served as a judge pro-tem of Madera Superior Court.

I have practiced law in Madera County for 37 years and I am currently senior law partner of Linn Law Offices in Oakhurst. I am licensed to practice law in all the courts of California. I have also been admitted to the Bar and practiced in the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the United States Court of Claims, and the United States Supreme Court.

I am a proud combat Vietnam veteran, served in NATO Forces in the North Atlantic, and been on the staff of Commander and Chief Pacific Fleet in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. I retired from the Navy with the rank of Commander.

I have served as president of the Oakhurst Community Fund and the Oakhurst Park Committee from 1984 until 2014. I am a former president of the Oakhurst Sierra Rotary Club and 31 year member, the Eastern Madera County Bar Association and the Eastern Madera County Chamber of Commerce.

I have served on Congressional advisory councils, the Congressional Business Council, and the Service Academy selection board. In 2013 I was honored by a resolution in the United States House of Representatives — in 1989 was awarded the Eastern Madera County Chamber's Man of the Year.

I am your friend, your neighbor, your lawyer, and the leader of many volunteer organizations. I am the most qualified individual to run for district attorney and on June 3, with your help, I will become the second district attorney elected from the mountain communities since the county was formed in 1893.
