The Oakhurst Area Chamber of Commerce is encouraging businesses to participate in the three-day Oakhurst Sidewalk Sale over the Memorial Day weekend (May 23-25).

For the event, participating stores and shops will display merchandise outside their stores while offering a variety of sales items. Some of the merchants will provide snacks, entertainment, drawings and giveaways.

"The Merchant Retail Committee of the chamber is excited about the upcoming Oakhurst Sidewalk Sale event," said Oakhurst Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Darin Soukup.

"The Chamber Merchant Retail Committee is sponsoring the event for the benefit of the entire Oakhurst area business community," Soukup said. "The members have been working hard on creating this brand new event. This is an opportunity for any local business to showcase their products and services to both residents and visitors alike."

This is the same committee that has brought the community the Mountain Bucks gift certificate program to promote and encourage shopping locally."

Three merchants that plan on special promotions during the sale are Sullivan's Tire Pros, Dorsey's Hallmark, and Oakhurst Feed & Pet Supply.

According to Dave Dorsey, his Hallmark store, adjacent to Von's, will have a 50% off sidewalk sale on a variety of gift items.

"If customers use Mountain Bucks, they will get an additional 10% off the Sidewalk Sale items or 10% off anything in the store," Dorsey said.

Soukup said the Sidewalk Sale idea is to not only to support area businesses, but also to support Mountain Area consumers.

"This sale will provide people an incentive to explore our many merchants and retailers over the Memorial Day Weekend," Soukup said.. "
