Joan Marie Hedger Steinle died in Cayucos April 13, 2014 at the age of 80. She was born September 29, 1933 to Arthur and Myrta (Glick) Hedger in Visalia and was raised in Coarsegold. Mrs. Steinle graduated from Sierra Union High School and from CSU Fresno. She married her husband, Forrest Steinle May 27, 1955.
She worked at the soda fountain in the Coarsegold Market as a teen, spending her college summers working for the Curry Company in Yosemite National Park, and taught more than a full generation of students at Greenville Elementary School in Plumas County. Her hobbies were serving as organist for the First Lutheran Church in Greenville, painting in watercolors, sewing, quilting, gardening and cooking. Mrs. Steinle was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
She is survived by her brother John and wife Carla Hedger of Redwood City and Coarsegold; sons Bruce and wife Christy of Spokane, Wash., and Fred and wife Kathy of Carson City, Nev.; daughter, Julie and husband Kevin Alto of Eden Prairie, Minn.; grandchildren Shannon, Callie, Christopher, Melissa, and Fritz; and other family members.
A memorial service will be held 3 p.m., May 25, at the First Lutheran Church in Greenville. A private celebration of her life will be held in June in Cayucos. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made in her name to the Coarsegold Historical Society or to your favorite charity.
