Oakhurst Community College to host community unity event

April 30, 2014

The Oakhurst College Campus will be having a Community Unity event on the campus on Thursday, May 8, 2014, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. This event will bring mountain area vendors, service groups and local area colleges together to celebrate our community. There will be free food, music, workshops, games, and prize drawings.

At 11:30 a.m., a “Getting Cash for College” workshop will be held. This workshop, conducted by Financial Aid, will help current and future students find the funds to attend college.

Some of the local community businesses, service organizations and colleges attending include First 5, CAL Fire, Madera County Fire, Helping Hands, Oakhurst Area Chamber of Commerce, Soroptimists of the Sierra, Fresno Pacific University, National University, Sierra Tel, Oakhurst Kihon Karate, SOS (Service Organization of the Sierras), The Boys and Girls Club, and Yosemite Western Artists Association.

School representatives from the faculty, Academic Counseling, Veterans’ Services, Financial Aid, and Student Government will be available to provide information, as well as answer questions.

This event will provide an opportunity for individuals to see all of the wonderful vendors, services, and service organizations available here in the mountains. “This is a great opportunity to enjoy some food, learn more about our amazing community, and win some prizes. I hope you can join us on May 8th to celebrate our community,” states Vikki Piper, Oakhurst Center Coordinator. The Oakhurst Center is located off of Highway 41 on Civic Circle Drive behind the Rite Aid store in Oakhurst. For further information, please call 683-3940.
