The Mountain Area was well represented by four junior golfers at the 67th Len Ross Jr. Golf Tournament April 14-17 in Fresno.
Competing in the tournament from Oakhurst were Ryan Emerick, Eddie Nixon, Spencer Uzzell, Kevin Lauterbach, Jessica Rudd, and Claire Oetinger.
After the first two days of the tournament, which were played at Fig Garden and Riverside Golf Courses, there was a cut and Uzzell, Lauterbach, Rudd, and Oetinger made it to the third day of play.
At the end of play at Airways April 16, they all made it to the final day which was hosted by San Joaquin Country Club.
At SJCC, Lauterbach had an outstanding final round, shooting 69. He finished the tournament tied for ninth. Uzzell tied for 30th and Rudd finished in 13th in her division. Oetinger finished fifth in her division and was awarded the Girls Sportsmanship Award. This is a big honor, because one girl and boy is chosen from the entire field of girls and boys.
Claire was awarded the honor, because she called a penalty on herself while taking a 13 on one hole. Despite taking the 13 she had a good attitude about the entire situation. She was playing well up to that point and continued to do so after taking the 13.
