Yosemite golf team remains undefeated

April 29, 2014

The Yosemite Badgers golf team continued its run through the North Sequoia League with two victories last week making it six for six in tournament play. On Tuesday, April 22, YHS scored 180 points at Pheasant Run in Chowchilla. Kerman came in second with 132 points followed by Chowchilla with a score of 121.

Kevin Lauterbach and Ryan Emerick shot 39, but Kevin was awarded medalist with 40 Stableford points to Ryan's 39. Ben Avena came in third with 37 points and Matt Moneymaker tied Kerman's Nate Roberts for fourth with 35 points. On Wednesday, hosting at Sierra Meadows, YHS scored 189 points to second place Liberty High School's 151. Kerman came in third with 121 points.

Lauterbach led the way with an even par 36 and 46 points. It was Kevin's fourth tournament win and put him well ahead in the league MVP scoring. Ben Avena shot a 37 for 43 points.

John Cook, of Chowchilla shot a 38 for 41 points and Spencer Uzzell posted a 41 for 37 points and fourth place in the tournament. The strong showing by the Badgers has them well ahead in league standings and fairly certain to wrap up their third straight league championship this week at Sierra Meadows when they host the league's championship tournament.

In individual standings, YHS has the top four spots. Along with Kevin Lauterbach are Ryan Emerick, Ben Avena, and freshman Spencer Uzzell. YHS is looking toward May 5 where they will participate in the North Area Championship held at Riverside Golf Course in Fresno. A victory there would send the Badgers into the CIF Championship Tournament.
