Obituary for 5/1/14 edition of the Sierra Star

Gardner A. Murray, 72, died April 23, 2014. He was born May 21, 1941 in San Luis Obispo to parents I. Bruce and Florence Murray. He spent the majority of his life in Bakersfield, retiring in 2004 and moving to Bass Lake.

Mr. Murray graduated from Bakersfield High and Bakersfield College, and then went to work for his father as an insurance adjuster in 1961. He eventually started his own company with John Knox/Murray Know Insurance.

He was a member of the Kern County Sheriff's Aero Squadron, and a Squadron Commander from 1974-75. He was a tournament Bridge player, enjoyed golf, and spending time with family and friends.

Mr. Murray is preceded in death by his brother, Douglas, and daughter, Michelle.

He is survived by his wife, Doris, of 51 years; son David of Austin, Texas; granddaughter Jenna; brother Bruce and wife Marge; sister-in-law Pamela; and many nieces, great-nieces and great-nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held a 2 p.m., May 14, 2014, at the Pines Resort in Bass Lake.
