Kopp does it again

April 29, 2014

Minarets senior Mikayla Kopp, 17, won the Lions Club district speech contest in San Ramon April 26.

The theme of this year's competition is Community Service: What does it mean and why does it matter?

The four competitors were judged on content (logical introduction and content development with supporting materials), delivery (clear enunciation, appropriate gestures and body movements, speech pace), and overall effectiveness of speech (was it persuasive or merely delivering a talk, did personality show).

The next stop for Kopp is the area competition, which will be held May 17 in Linden. Should Kopp win at the next level, she will participate in the state finals June 7 in Pasadena.

The state winner will walk away with more than $21,000 in scholarships.

Kopp is sponsored by the North Fork Lions Club, and was the winner at the regional level last month.
