Edward James Lyons, 85, of North was originally arrested February 28 on nine counts of unlawful sexual contact with a minor. During his arraignment hearing early April, the District Attorney's office filed to increase the charges from nine counts to 21 counts, to which Lyons pled not guilty.
According to Deputy District Attorney Tracy Wise, because of the statute of limitations, Lyons could only be charged with certain acts between January 1988 and October 4, 1989.
Lyons will appear in Department 2 before Judge Dale Blea on May 5 for a pre-trial release hearing and trial confirmation; September 15 for a final trial confirmation; and September 16 for a jury trial.
His defense attorney, Robert Troncoso, declined comment.
Lyons remains in jail and is being held on a $900,000 bond.
