Members of the River Creek Women's Golf Club held a guest day tournament under beautiful spring conditions April 10, with 35 women golfers coming from Belmont Country Club, Pheasant Run, Riverbend, Sherwood Forest, Sierra Meadows and Yosemite Lakes Park Golf Courses.
"The scramble format of foursome teams allows players to feel relaxed without the pressure of having to hit perfect shots, since there is always help from other members of the team," said Maggie Martin, captain of River Creek.
Two teams tied with the lowest gross score of 71. To break the tie, scores were compared on the hardest holes of the course. The tie wasn't broken until the third hardest hole, No. 4. Capturing first place was the team of Pookie Mansker from Pheasant Run Golf Course; Maria Garcia, Riverbend; Peggy Briscoe, Sierra Meadows and Angela Peters, River Creek.
Second place also with the gross score of 71 went to the Sherwood/Belmont team of Karen Charnock, Jackie Lewis, Chris Cook and Glenda Morgan.
Walking away with third place with a 73 was the Riverbend team of Vicki Barefield, Linda Steiner, Willeen Morley and Nadine Nishio.
There was a closest to the pin contest on two par three holes. Doris Pasley's drive on No. 8 landed 17-feet-4 inches from the hole. Then Jan Niino from Riverbend landed her drive on No. 12 just 1/8 of an inch from being a hole-in-one.
The day wrapped up with Ann Duerksen from Yosemite Lakes Park Golf Course winning the drawing of golf for four at River Creek.
