The Yosemite High School baseball team lost two games to Liberty High - Madera Ranchos last week to drop their league record to 2-5 and their overall record to 4-12.
In Tuesday's loss, Liberty's starting pitcher Stetson Wood was dominant throwing a two hit shutout in a 6-0 win over Yosemite. Wood is one of the top pitchers in the valley. There were pro scouts from 6 MLB teams in attendance to witness his low nineties fastball.
Jarett Barone's double in the seventh and Evan Deihl's single in the fourth were the only Badgers hits in the game.
On Friday, Yosemite carried a one run lead into the fourth inning but couldn't hold it as they gave away another one 5-1. Joe Woolsey picked up his first league loss giving up only one earned run in five innings.
The score was tied entering the fifth inning. The Hawks put runners on first and second with one out. Yosemite had the runner picked off first but an errant throw by the catcher put runners at second and third. A sacrifice fly made it 2-1. Another bad throw on a steal attempt at third made it 3-1.
The Badgers had their chances leaving the bases loaded in the third and fifth innings. In all, they left 10 runners on base. They also had three runners thrown out on the base paths after making poor decisions. As has been the case all year, a lack of timely hitting, poor base running and costly errors doomed the Badgers. Dylan Rounsville was 2 for 3 with a double and Trevor Smi was 1 for 2 with two walks and a RBI.
The Badgers will play two against Sierra this week. A home game Tuesday, and Friday's game will be in Tollhouse.
