The 29th annual Elegant Auction to benefit the Oakhurst Community Park will be held once again at Tenaya Lodge in Fish Camp on Saturday, April 12.
This year's theme honors the Celebration of the 150th Anniversary of Yosemite. Because of this, Abraham Lincoln will be joining in the event, and he just may give you an earful while telling a few stories on Yosemite in the 1800s.
The doors open at 5 p.m., and bidding begins immediately on the silent auction tables. While bidding, you will have opportunity to listen to the Adam Burns band and enjoy a wonderful selection of appetizers from the gourmet buffet. Have fun capturing the moment with friends or that special someone in the photo booth.
The exciting live auction begins at 8 p.m., with auctioneer, Rick Colon. Live auction items include trips to Hawaii, Palm Springs, Pismo Beach; art work; gas barbecue; jewelry; half day of tree-service work; a two-night stay for two couples, along with attending the Chef's Dinner at the Ahwahnee Hotel; a great package from Tenaya; carved 6-foot bear and too many other great items to mention.
After the live auction, the dancing will begin; there will also be a small poker tournament. The evening offers a little something for everyone. Because the night's festivities may linger a little longer, for those who decide to stay-over, Tenaya Lodge is offering a deal $99 for the night if you use the code word elegant.'
'We hope to see everyone there to help support our local park,' event chair Susan Macaulay said. 'Don't forget this is the only fundraiser we have to help with maintenance, new equipment and water.'
More than 175 people raised about $43,000 at last year's event to support the Oakhurst Community Park. The park receives no government funds or grants and the auction is the park's sole annual fundraiser that supports park equipment, supplies, upgrades, maintenance and security.
The auction has been the source of $1.6 million in donations for the park over the past 28 years. The Oakhurst Community Fund was established in 1981 through which tax deductible donations could be made for the park.
