The Minarets Mustangs (8-3), beat the Granite Hills Grizzlies of Porterville, 5-1. last week.
Working a walk after nine pitches, lead off batter Jordan Christian scored on Conly Biglion's sacrafice fly to open the scoring for the Mustangs in the first inning. Klye Reed doubled to the left field fence to drive in two more Mustangs.
Sam Reyes and Keenan Reardon recorded RBIs to make quick work of the Grizzlies, jumping out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning as Minarets batted through the line-up in the first frame.
Reardon took the mound in quest of his third win of the season the Grizzlies scored one run, the result and error and fielders choice. The Mustangs answered as Reed began the third with a single, stole second, and scored on Reardon's single to left. The team went on to cruise to a 11-3 win, Reardon recorded the win with the help of Biglione, who went 2 for 3 with a triple, good for two RBIs. Sophmore Riley Hillerman relieved to close the win out for the Mustangs.
Minarets added 10 hits (five for extra bases) to their season total of 130. Averaging better than 11 hits a game, the Mustangs have scored 117 runs in 11 games, good for third in the state rankings according to Maxpreps.com, while slugging .558, (eighth in state, 21st nation). The team is second in the state with 92 RBIs.
Minarets continued to add to their state leading 102 stolen bases (sixth in nation) stealing five bases against the Grizzlies.
The Mustangs continues to sit atop the state rankings of all divisions of play in numerous categories kept by MaxPreps. Playing Division 6 ball due to their new program and size, the Mustangs have compiled outstanding stats while playing only one D6 team.
Senior Sam Reyes is batting .667, good for ninth in the state. Reardon's .576 ranks him 59th. Utility player Justin McLeod is doing his part with limited action, hitting .800, with eight hits in 10 plate appearences.
This Saturday the Mustangs travel to Delano for a rematch against Chavez High. A very well coached team, the Chavez kept it close 8-7 after four until the Mustangs broke it open in the closing innings, for a 12-7 win. Minarets will return home with games against Fowler (2-7) on April 1, and Riverdale (1-6), on April 4. Both games start at 4 p.m.
