Mello named MVP

Yosemite High School senior Alek Mello was named the boys soccer team's MVP at the team's recent end of season awards banquet.

Junior Oliver Curley received the Coaches Award, senior Austin Bain was named Most Valuable Defensive Player, senior Tristan Webb received the Captains Award, and Tyler Wallace received the Underclassman of the Year award.

Mello and Bain were first team All League selections in the North Sequoia League. Mello missed being named the North Sequoia League player of the year by one vote.

Webb and Curley were named second team All League in the NSL.

Of the 18 players on the team, 13 of them made the NSL All Academic team.

Kevin Kirk was named the JV teams' MVP, and Jonathon Mulkey and Gregory Royse were named the team's Most Valuable Offensive Player and Most Improved Player, respectively.


Alumni game Saturday

This year's fundraising Yosemite High School Alumni Baseball Game will be played at 1 p.m., Saturday, at the YHS varsity baseball field.

The game has grown bigger every year as the Yosemite Baseball Boosters enters its ninth year of existence. Admission is free, and a hamburger and hot dog barbecue will be available all day.

Alumni expected to play in the game include Jay Spurgeon, Corey Miller, Shaun Spurgeon, Bradly Wilkinson, John Scott, Matt, Eric, and Adam Harkenrider, and Zach Howard, Jeff Bell, Jordan Creamer, Eric Woods, Zach Shackelford, Jesse Lowensbury, Michael Lagow, Ryan Olson, Bob Denson, Joe Doering, Grady Eaton, Chris Day, Pat Flanigan, Matt Painter, Derek Mello, Derek O'Reilly, Drew Marr, and Jason Martina.

Special Needs Olympics April 4

Minarets senior Hailey Ziegler will be hosting a Special Needs Olympics event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Friday, April 4, at Minarets High School in O'Neals.

The event will include a variety of challenges including obstacle races, 1/4 mile race, wheel-chair races, and softball throw.

Snacks will be provided at the beginning of the event and awards will be handed out at the end of the Olympics.

Coarsegold School Golf Tournament

The Coarsegold School Golf Tournament will be held 9 a.m., Saturday, March 29, at Sierra Meadows Golf Course.

Registration begins at 7 a.m. and a continental breakfast will be available from 8-9a.m., prior to tee time. The event will include a long distance putting contest, 50/50 raffle and several raffle prizes to be given out during the Tri-tip luncheon.

Proceeds will go to benefit students at Coarsegold Elementary.

Babe Ruth baseball

Yosemite Gateway Bbabe Ruth is about to begin spring training sessions.

Babe Ruth is for players 12-15 and of all skill level. Registration forms may be obtained by contacting Pete Reardon ar (559) 312-6275, humbaby2@sti.net.


Yosemite flag football

A co-ed flag football league with six division, first grade through adult, will at noon, Sunday, April 6, at Yosemite High School. All interested in participating are asked to come early for registration.

Divisions and game times are first and second grand (1 p.m.). third and fourth grade (1 p.m.), fifth and sixth grade (2 p.m.), seventh and eighth grade (2 p.m.), high school (3 p.m.) and adult (3 p.m.).

Games dates are April 6, 13, 27, and May 4 and 18.

Registration is $20 per player and included a T-shirt.
