Alumni baseball March 29

This year's Yosemite High School Alumni Baseball Game is scheduled for 1 p.m., Saturday, March 29.

Alumni expected top play in the game include Jay Spurgeon, Corey Miller, Shaun Spurgeon, Bradly Wilkinson, John Scott, Matt and Eric Harkenrider, and Zac Howard.

The game has grown bigger every year as the Yosemite Baseball Boosters enters its ninth year of existence. Admission is free, and a hamburger and hot dog barbecue will be available all day.

Former YHS players are asked to call (559) 676-2793, email, or go to to sign-up to play in the game by March 18.

Yosemite flag football

A co-ed flag football league with six division, first grade through adult, will at noon, Sunday, April 6, at Yosemite High School. All interested in participating are asked to come early for registration.

Divisions and game times are first and second grand (1 p.m.). third and fourth grade (1 p.m.), fifth and sixth grade (2 p.m.), seventh and eighth grade (2 p.m.), high school (3 p.m.) and adult (3 p.m.).

Games dates are April 6, 13, 27, and May 4 and 18.

Registration is $20 per player and included a T-shirt.


Jones will speak at Minarets baseball dinner March 29

The Minarets Mustangs Diamond Club are hosting the programs Third Annual Baseball Dinner featuring former New York Met pitcher Bobby Jones at 6 p.m., March 29, at the school gym.

A member of the Fresno Athletic Hall Of Fame, Jones was drafted out of Fresno State in the first round of the MLB draft by the Mets in 1991. Jones's name covers the Fresno State record book — he is tied for third in wins, and second in saves. His 2.45 ERA is fifth all-time. He went on to a successful 11-year major league career.

In his first season in the big leagues Jones went 12-7, with a 3.15 ERA. In 1997 he was named to the National League All-Star team and his 5 wins ranked him ninth that year. Finishing his career with the Padres, Jones left the game with an 89-83 record, a career 4.36 ERA, and 887 strike-outs. Jones is currently in his first year as pitching coach with Fresno State.

Samora named all-league

Yosemite High senior Regan Samora has been named to the offense and defense All-League North Sequoia League teams.

Junior Sierrah Slocum and freshman Riley Ashton received second team all-league honors.

Ted Lilly Golf Tournament

The Ted Lilly Golf Tournament that raises funds for Mountain Area youth baseball programs is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 12, at Sierra Meadows Country Club in Ahwahnee.
