More than 450 music lovers sat at tables covered with linen and long-stemmed roses in vases in Yosemite High School's Baker Gymnasium, transformed into a concert hall March 1 for the Sixth Annual "Nite on the Town." The fundraiser for the YHS music department featured more than 100 students performing 30 musical numbers.
Yosemite High Band Director Randy Hyatt said he was totally pleased with the evening's performance.
"I felt the talent level was the highest ever," Hyatt said.
Pat Mierkey was assistant director and Christel Biasell directed the choirs. Francisco Marquez, a Fresno State student-teacher, also directed.
Four stages were used by the Yosemite band, jazz band, percussion ensemble, concert choir, brass ensemble, chamber singers, wind ensemble, and soloists on four stages during the evening.
Jocelyn Boe received a standing ovation for her opera solo of "O Mio Babbino Caro."
Dena Boortz and student's from her culinary arts classes some coming off the stage served chocolate covered strawberries and a variety of cakes and pies during intermission.
Yosemite Unified School District board of trustee member Monika Moulin served as master of ceremonies for the event.
The event raised about $8,000 that will be split between the band and the choir.
"I'm amazed at the evolution of Nite on the Town over the past six years," Hyatt said. "Supportive parents, a generous business community, and a great community has made this event the big success that it is."
