Lady Badgers win playoff game

February 28, 2014

The Yosemite High School girls basketball team (17-9, 7-3 NSL) opened round one of the CIF Central Section D-II playoffs with a convincing 46-28 win over the Ridgeview Wolfpack in Bakersfield Friday night.

Ridgeview was seeded No. 4 and Yosemite No. 5 going into the playoffs.

Yosemite’s Sierra Dominici and Veronica Miller were the game’s high scorers with 16 points each. Sophomore Jessica Fine added eight.

Yosemite will travel back to Bakersfield for a 7 p.m., contest on Wednesday, March 5, against the section’s No. 1 seed, Garces High (28-3, 10-0). Garces is ranked as the No. 20 D-II team in the state and Yosemite is ranked No. 83 according to Maxpreps.com.

The winner of the Yosemite-Garces game will play the winner of the Madera-Redwood (Visalia) game. The winner of that game will play for the section championship at 6 p.m., Friday, March 7, at Fresno’s Selland Arena.

Yosemite’s 6-foot-2 junior center Taylor Burrall had to leave Friday night’s game in the first quarter with an ankle injury and is questionable for Wednesday’s game.
