Oak Creek wins tournament

The Oak Creek Intermediate School Lady Raiders Basketball team recently completed its second straight undefeated season by winning the Mountain Area Championship tournament at Yosemite High School on Feb. 15.

The team, coached by Erik Peterson, defeated Coarsegold Elementary School 35-5 in the quarter-final round. The other quarter-final game saw Wasuma Elementary defeat Rivergold 18-12.

Oak Creek then defeated Wasuma 28-5 in the semi-finals, sending Wasuma into the losers bracket. Wasuma lost to Coarsegold 28-26, setting up an OCI-Coarsegold championship game.

Oak Creek lead early and cleared the bench giving all 15 players time on the court and cruised to a 32-15 win for the title.

The team consisted of Lindsey Guidry, Allison Bernardi, Trinity Curtis, Grace Fries, Natalie Lawerence, Linea Leinau, Kelsey Montalto, Izzy Peter, Vaughn Pierce, and Hailey Rich. B team players brought up for the tournament were Randi Johnson, Angela McBride, Brooke Negley, Kayla Truelove, and Abby Williams.

The final order of finish for the tournament was:

1. Oak Creek Intermediate

2. Coarsegold

3. Wasuma

4. Spring Valley

5. Rivergold

6. North Fork

7. Raymond
