Arson trial now underway

February 4, 2014

The trial of a Coarsegold couple accused of arson got underway Tuesday, Jan. 28, at the Madera County Superior Court.

Kenneth Jackson, 41, and Allison Waterman, 46, of Yosemite Lakes Park were arrested June 25, in connection to a rash of fires started in Yosemite Lakes Park and the surrounding areas.

Jackson is being held to answer on 21 counts of arson (20 counts of arson of wildlands and one count of arson of an inhabited structure), along with one count of battery on a peace officer, and one count of resisting arrest.

Waterman is being held to answer on only 12 counts of arson including conspiracy to commit arson of wildlands of an inhabited area.

Prosecuting Deputy District Attorney Sally Moreno declined to comment on the case.

The case, scheduled to continue over the next few months, will see several witnesses called to the stand in regards to the character of Waterman and Jackson as well as expertise on the lack of visual evidence in the case.
